The Facility Needs of Ontario's Arts Organizations are Pressing

Ontario's arts organizations are at the heart of their community's social and cultural lives. It is essential that artists and the people whose lives are enriched by their work have up-to-date, safe and environmentally sound facilities. Yet artists and audiences regularly experience drafty, leaky and sometimes unsafe environments.

The 2009 and 2006 Ipsos Reid research studies commissioned by ArtsBuild Ontario confirmed that 75% of organizations have multiple, ongoing capital needs such as specialized technical equipment, renovations, or building acquisition. Current funding programs are just not adequate to meet their needs.

ArtsBuild Ontario Established to Help Improve Arts Facilities

ArtsBuild is the only provincial organization that is focused on arts facilities, serving all arts organizations in the province while maintaining a particular focus on the small and mid-sized.

ArtsBuild Ontario was founded in 2000 to address the long-standing need among visual and performing arts organizations for improved facilities. In 2008, a significant three-year commitment from The Ontario Trillium Foundation in 2008 allowed ArtsBuild Ontario to initiate a comprehensive program to address the urgent infrastructure deficits of our province's arts organizations.
