{"id":591,"date":"2013-01-21T17:03:58","date_gmt":"2013-01-21T22:03:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.artsbuildontario.ca\/pibi\/2013\/01\/21\/concept-feasibility-3\/"},"modified":"2017-04-21T14:43:14","modified_gmt":"2017-04-21T18:43:14","slug":"concept-feasibility-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.artsbuildontario.ca\/pibi\/?p=591","title":{"rendered":"Concept &#038; Feasibility"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Laying the groundwork for a successful project<\/h2>\n<p>Any cultural facilities project begins with a <b>vision<\/b>: an idea sparked within an organization that is driven by a <b>need<\/b> \u2013 something about the status quo that needs to be altered in order to better serve your artistic or cultural mission.<\/p>\n<p>The objective of the Concept and Feasibility phase is to <b>develop the project\u2019s vision<\/b> and mission, articulate the <b>reasons for undertaking it<\/b>, find <b>effective solutions<\/b>, and assess whether they are <b>possible to achieve<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>For a renovation project, this phase may be brief, and much simpler than for new construction.\u00a0 You may already know exactly what needs to be done, and what it will take to do it.\u00a0 Nevertheless, it\u2019s worth taking the time to go through the steps in this phase, both for the sake of explaining your efforts to stakeholders and for making sure the resources spent on the project effectively serve your organizational needs and mission.<\/p>\n<h2>First, develop the <a href=\"\/pibi\/?p=592\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Project Concept<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Examine and articulate your facilities needs and aspirations<\/li>\n<li>Develop their critical indicators<\/li>\n<li>Identify solutions that address your needs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Then, test the <a href=\"\/pibi\/?p=593\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Feasibility<\/span><\/a> of these solutions<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Against institutional, architectural, and fundraising parameters<\/li>\n<li>Within available budgets<\/li>\n<li>In response to stakeholder and community priorities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Also, develop the core team of people who will see the project through to completion \u2013 including (depending on the project\u2019s scale):<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Executive staff<\/li>\n<li>Board leadership<\/li>\n<li>Key donors<\/li>\n<li>Community leaders<\/li>\n<li>Expert consultants and other outside help<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Too often, especially in the arts where we are used to implementing ideas quickly on a shoestring budget, facilities projects go from initial idea right to design and construction without going through the other steps involved in project planning.
