{"id":803,"date":"2013-01-18T03:01:56","date_gmt":"2013-01-18T08:01:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.artsbuildontario.ca\/pibi\/2013\/01\/18\/needs-assessment-3\/"},"modified":"2017-04-21T14:43:14","modified_gmt":"2017-04-21T18:43:14","slug":"needs-assessment-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.artsbuildontario.ca\/pibi\/?p=803","title":{"rendered":"Needs Assessment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A <b>needs assessment<\/b> is a process used to identify discrepancies between current and desired conditions.\u00a0 In developing your mission statement, you will be describing the objective of your renovation project \u2013 the needs assessment will help you describe <b>what is required to make it happen<\/b>.<\/p>\n<h2>This work will:<\/h2>\n<ul style=\"font-style: normal;\">\n<li>Help rationalize the tangible components of your project<\/li>\n<li>Define both the current state of affairs and the planned changes<\/li>\n<li>Determine where you should be going and how to know if you\u2019ve gotten there<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>A needs assessment focuses on what is required, not how to do it<\/h2>\n<p>At this stage, it is important to focus on articulating the desired <b>ends<\/b>, rather than the <b>means<\/b> to solving a given facility problem.\u00a0 For example, \u201cwe need 3 dance studios\u201d is a <i>means<\/i> to solving the problem of \u201cwe need to accommodate sixty dance students.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Describing the <b>end function<\/b> of facilities &#8211; rather than the architectural methods of getting there &#8211; <b>maintains flexibility<\/b> and will improve the likelihood of a viable solution.
