A capital campaign is a fundraising effort targeted towards a specific project that takes place over a fixed period of time.  It is distinct from annual fundraising that supports operational costs, and is used to raise large sums of money, often over a period of several years.  Capital campaigns typically support bricks-and-mortar building projects and/or the accumulation of endowment funds.  Capital campaigns are complex undertakings that require:

• Careful planning and institutional readiness to execute the campaign
• An understanding of the typical campaign phases
• Skillful execution of a well-developed campaign plan
