Social Purpose Real Estate for Arts Spaces

ArtsBuild Ontario is excited to introduce Social Purpose Real Estate (SPRE) for Arts Spaces.

SPRE for Arts Spaces is a 3-year project that will provide arts organizations with skills development through training modules, case studies, and a Space Lab program. The project will provide a deepened understanding of and access to launching and managing social purpose real estate, with a focus on small and mid-size cultural organizations. SPRE is driven by current challenges, needs and innovative practices about social purpose real estate and began development in August 2024.

The goals of SPRE for Arts Spaces are to:

  • Equip arts organizations with the knowledge and capacity needed to undertake multi-sector and shared-space partnership
  • Develop a program that also addresses systemic inequalities in land and space planning
  • Create more sustainable and long-term arts spaces
  • Strengthen the resilience of the sector

Project offerings include:

  • 8 online training modules
  • 6 in-depth case studies
  • 4 panel online discussions
  • A Space Lab for SPRE projects (Year 3)

The Space Lab program will be developed by ABO and Toronto Metropolitan University’s Creative School. Training modules, case studies, and panel discussions will be available on ABO’s digital platforms.

To stay informed about SPRE offerings and how to access them, sign up for our newsletter. Module registration will be first-come, first-served. Registration links will be posted to this webpage, as well as shared on our social media accounts and the ABO Eventbrite.
