kingstonSome things are timeless, ageless, and truly grand.  And while theatre as an art form is a perfect example of this, theatres themselves, tend to have an expiration date–especially ones that were built well over a century ago.  Such was the case of The Grand Theatre in Kingston. Built in 1879, the time had come for a major overhaul that would preserve and maintain the grandeur of this historic building while simultaneously expanding the space for an ever-growing audience.

It is the crossroads of a major route for cottagers and a road that leads to Pearson International Airport. There is a particular irony that many of the pieces that make up this museum and archives have themselves, traveled to this location.

ArtsBuild is conducting nine community engagement sessions in 2013 across the province!

ArtsBuild is visiting nine representative communities across Ontario to involve local leaders in  conversations about the successes they are achieving around creating the spaces they need for vibrant cultural activity in their community and the challenges they are facing in developing and maintaining these spaces.  ArtsBuild will also share the innovative approaches it has been developing and engage the communities in assessing the relevance these hold for local arts organizations.
