A clear, well-reasoned project mission statement is the first part of a project concept. It clearly and concisely communicates:
- Why doing the project is necessary
- How a facility will be used
- How it will address the needs of the organization and community
The mission should be developed iteratively by your internal planning team, who should meet early and often to brainstorm and refine ideas. It should take into consideration your existing strategic plan and the results of the needs assessment undertaken concurrently.
The project mission will form the basis for the case statement used in fundraising, and as such should clearly address both internal and external requirements and benefits.
